Awkward, Weird or Something Else?

Stephanie Seymour
Nobody can forget 1990's American actress and supermodel Stephanie Seymour after watching her in the two music videos by Guns N' Roses: "Don't Cry" and "November Rain". She even got involved with Axl Rose, the band's lead singer, in the middle of 1991, but broke up in February 1993 after Rose accused Seymour of being unfaithful. She later married billionaire publisher Peter Brant, who is the father of her three children.

It is, therefore, understandable to see those who saw her music videos get so thrilled to hear Stephanie was doing a photo shoot with Harper’s Bazaar. It was even reported to the press that the shoot was with her sons, 20-year-old Peter and 17-year-old Harry, who are good-looking and interesting in the way that the children of supermodels and billionaires tend to be.

Then everyone saw the pictures, and now they feel like prudes because they are totally creeped out by them. Sooo ... this is awkward.
Seymour and Sons
In a provocative photo shoot, Stephanie Seymour dons lingerie and strikes come-and-get-it poses while draping herself around her two sons. It feels like all those ugly family Christmas photos with everyone donning ugly sweater no longer seem embarrassing.

Maybe it’s just Stephanie Seymour. Maybe she’s just so inherently sexy that everything she does instantly seems suffused with eroticism, forcing everyone who saw it to read inappropriate things into an innocent picture of her teenage sons lacing her into thigh-high fetish boots - nope, still weird.

One photo (seen above) in the 11-page spread depicts Seymour wearing a black, backless, cleavage-baring minidress. She faces one son, whose arm is wrapped around her waist, while the other son’s hand rests near her rear end. Seymour’s own hand covers her crotch.

In a third photo, Seymour sports a sheer dress, while her sons kneel on either side of her body — one hugs her thigh, the other rests his head close to her hip. The rest of the photos are two degrees tamer: The family playfully poses while applying makeup, wearing funky headdresses, and brushing their hair.

Here’s the thing: It’s fashion — meant to titillate, provoke, and eroticize — not to be taken seriously. It’s almost creepy of others to point out the ick factor, right? Yet, given that most people would probably not want to see their own mom in her underwear, the in-your-face, S&M-tinged photos feel ... off.

To be fair, the Brant boys haven’t exactly grown up in a conventional household, all living on a 300-acre Connecticut estate complete with 50 ponies and a polo field. The family’s attitude toward sexuality is clearly fluid — a life-size nude bust of Seymour hangs prominently in the Brant family home.

And maybe they are just an affectionate group. It will be remembered that after his photos surfaced three years ago with his bikini-clad mother hugging and kissing each other on the beach, Peter Jr. wrote, "My mother and I are very close as she is with all her children ... We have nothing to hide and with that in mind I would like to say that I am openly gay ... and yes, our relationship may be different because of my sexuality."
