The New iPad Pro
In early 5 June, Apple announced a new version of the iPad Pro, a 10.5-inch model that is technically just a little bit larger than the earlier 9.7-inch tablet but, with 40 percent smaller bezels, offers much more screen real estate.

Like all of the high-end iPad Pros its an impressive piece of hardware, with a brighter display, a new 64-bit A10X Fusion chip, and something called Pro Motion that increases the refresh rate and, Apple claims, makes the accessory pencil even more natural-feeling.

For most people the first question to ask is probably: How big is it? According to The Verge, the 10-inch iPad felt like a "normal"-sized iPad and isn't nearly as ginormous as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

What's more interesting are the new iOS 11 multitasking features for iPad that are borrowed from macOS. In some ways it feels as though Apple has stopped trying to convince its iPad users (or potential iPad customers) that they should just figure out how to be productive despite mobile limitations, and has acknowledged that some people might actually like to be able to manipulate apps and files on mobile.

Performance
Inside the new iPads, the six-core CPU and 12-core GPU promise up to 30 per cent faster CPU performance and 40 per cent faster graphics performance than the previous A9X chip, as well as all-day battery life (which Apple is quick to clarify depends on usage and device settings.)

Cameras and Audio
The new iPad Pros have the same front- and back-facing cameras as the iPhone 7 – a 12MP camera with optical image stabilisation on the back and a 7MP FaceTime HD camera. iPad Pro additionally has a four-speaker audio system.

iOS 11 on the New iPad Pro
Among the many new features of iOS 11 is a selection of iPad-specific updates, namely a new Files app and the ability to drag and drop text, photos and files from one app to another.

These join a new customisable Dock, better multitasking, including a redesigned app switcher, a new document scanner in Notes, which lets users easily scan single or multi-page documents, and support for inline drawing to write along text in Notes and Mail with the Apple Pencil.

Availability and Price
The 10.5-inch iPad Pro comes in silver, space grey, gold and rose gold and starts at £619 for the 64GB with Wi-Fi model and £749 for the 64GB Wi-Fi and 4G model.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is available in the same colours and prices start at £769 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and £899 for the 64GB Wi-Fi and 4G model.

Both are available to order today from Apple.com and will ship to customers next week. Both models will also be available next week in Apple Stores.
