What is Apple Watch At This Time?

Apple Watch
When Apple announced on 9 September 2014 that they will be launching the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, everyone expected one more announcement before the event ends and they were not disappointed. Apple also released the Apple Watch (not iWatch as it was referred to in the many reports preceding the event).

Interestingly, the Apple Watch will not be available until the first quarter of 2015, and the price will be US$ 349, higher than the US$ 200 to US$ 300 price for most other such watches on the market, including the Samsung Gear.

What is really missing from the Watch announcement is any indication of battery life. This could be critical to the product’s success. If the battery has to be charged every day, this very likely will not be a successful product. The Apple Watch will support wireless charging — a good thing — but the life of the charge is the important point here. This should be measured in days, not hours.

The fact that Apple said nothing about this could mean they haven’t figured it out yet.

The company thoroughly demoed the Apple Watch on stage during the event, and here is what was revealed so far when it comes to its hardware.
  • Sizes: 38mm and 42mm
  • Versions: Apple Watch (polished or space black stainless steel), Apple Watch Sport (space gray or silver anodized aluminum) and Apple Watch Edition (18-karat rose or yellow gold) complete with a variety of strap choices for each model
