Miracle Floating Baby
It was reported yesterday that barangay authorities in Malabon City rescued a newly-born baby boy that they found floating on the Tullahan River at the height of the heavy rains and flooding last 20 August 2013.

Local officials and rescuers were conducting an operation at East Riverside at around 1:00 P.M. when they saw what looked like a baby doll floating along the river. At that time, the team was trying to rescue six men at the roof of their house.

"At first we thought it was a doll in white clothes, but as soon as we got near it, we realize it was a baby boy," one of the rescuers said.

They believed the newly-born child might have been left unattended by his mother and was swept by the flood into the river. The umbilical cord was already detached from the baby whom they believed to be only a day old.

Supt. Jackie Candelario, chief of operations of the city police, said that no one had claimed the baby boy.

He said they are preparing charges against the baby's mother as soon as they are able to identify her.

At this time, there are no information yet on the health status of the baby. No official information was also released on whether the baby is still in the hospital or in the care of the local social worker.
