Miss Universe - Philippines
This blog would like to congratulate Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon for being named first runner-up in this year's Miss Universe. Tugonon was the only Asian candidate who made it to the Top 10 among the 89 candidates.

Twenty-year-old cellist Miss USA Olivia Culpo took the crown during the coronation night held in Las Vegas on today (20 December 2012). Miss Venezuela Irene Sofia Esser Quintero placed second runner-up, Miss Australia Renae Ayris bagged the third runner-up and Miss Brazil Gabriela Markus was named fourth runner-up.

Completing the Top 10 are Miss France, Miss Hungary, Miss South Africa, Miss Mexico, and Miss Russia.

Tugonon was wearing a powder blue gown by Alfredo Barraza when she delivered the best answer to a question in the interview portion. Fashion photographer judge Nigel Barker's Twitter question was: "Should speaking English be a prerequisite to being Miss Universe as an international ambassador?"

Janine confidently said, "For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It’s being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have, as long as your heart is to serve and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe."

The pageant organizer's press statement reads,
"We are elated with the awesome showing of newly proclaimed Ms Universe 2012 first runner-up Janine Mari Tugonon. Just like Shamcey, Venus, and Miriam, Janine showed the world the Filipina's innate beauty, substance and elegance. Janine's achievement mirrors her earnest preparations for the past seven months and determination to win.

Congratulations Janine and we eagerly await your arrival. We are so proud of you!"
