Four days ago, this blog (Seek No More) became the most expensive site to advertise on Entrecard. At 32,768 ECs, an Entrecard member who wants to advertise on Seek No More for 24 hours using a 125x 125 ad has to drop a maximum of 300 cards for 109 days.
I'm not sure what happened or what prompted advertisers to choose my site, but it definitely surprised me because I had not expected it to happen even after two years as a member. I'm dropping everyday to make bloggers more familiar with Seek No More and what it stands for and not really to attract rich EC members to advertise.
What I observed with my blog in the last four days and counting is better explained when you look at the basic economic law of supply and demand. The more EC members advertising on Seek No More, the higher is the price charged. This is assuming that all other factors such as popularity, blog category and the likes remain constant.
However, I could not find any economic theory that can help explain why anybody is willing to shell out 32,768 ECs or even 16,384 ECs for a one day ad exposure. The only possible reason I could think of why advertisers such as, Hot Graphics, Free Blogger Templates, East Coast Life, Guitarbench, Maitri's Heart, Paperkraft and My Gypsy Goods, can afford to do this is because they are trying to beat the 100K credit cap on ECs that Entrecard will start implementing on 31 March 2010. After that date, Entrecard will automatically deduct credits from users that surpassed the limit.
The change was supposed to ensure a stable credit economy, reduce outstanding credit in the system and make advertising more affordable. The inflated cost of advertising on my blog could be a temporary effect which could taper off in the coming days ahead.

During that time, Entrecard members are trying to trim down their credits by holding contests and awarding winners with thousands of ECs. This year, no major EC contest was held, but I’m planning to throw one very soon to celebrate some notable achievements of this site.

I think it was the ultimatum that was posed a while back for all hoarders of more than one-hundred thousand ec credits to use them up fast or they would be confiscated - or something along those lines.
The effect appears to be having a detrimental affect and causing many to consider leaving as the adverts are now currently too expensive. When the new system was originally brought out and the credits were halved (in that we only receive credits for dropping and not for being dropped on) it was declared that the adverts would also be reduced in price. They now appear to have crept back up again which is sad as this takes the fun out of it. I have always advertised across the board as when I first joined Entrecard I was both pleased and grateful that many of the well known blogs chose to advertise on my blog for 4 Ec or 8 Ec each day. It took many many months of dropping and learning how to place the adverts before my blog began to rise and during that time I always have tried to spread the credits across the board.
We now have to fight even more as our adverts are displayed less and less with all of the so-called 'sponsor' ads trying to buy their way into pole position. I do hope that the advert system is looked at once again and perhaps a ceiling placed on top prices. Perhaps even a double widget introduced so that 'sponsor' adverts can run alongside purchased ones - this would be a better solution for us all, I think as well as a ceiling of 1000 Ec as the top mark-up for adverts. That is around half-a-weeks worth of daily dropping - no-one should have to spend more than that, surely???

If you have noticed for the past few days, most of the top 15 overall popular blogs in EC have not gone below the 2,048 ec/day bracket (which includes mine). As I have analyzed it, the 100,000 ECs margin cut has brought this phenomenon. I was laughing because when the EC management sent out the email, I did not even had more than 500 ECs at the time. So I am exempted! (LOL) I am impressed to those Entrecard users who have saved lots of their ECs!
You really deserve the price aside from the fact that you are a very popular blog in EC, you are also one of the top 30 biggest advertisers. As with my keen observation, those blogs that have spent much on advertising are the ones as well getting the most high prices and the top popular spots these days. Advertising and popularity come together.

Probably because you're not using your EC credits to advertise. That's what I observed. Everytime I accumulate credits, my price gets higher, and when I use them up, my price gets lower.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I guess those advertisers just have more than 100k ECs a week ago and now they were trying to get it below the cap limit. It was just my luck that they selected to spend them on my site. Thanks to them also.
I love your blog, but I think the high rate encourages only the richest "clique Bloggers" to spend their vast accumulations of credits, while discouraging everyone else. That's a lot carpal tunnel for a limited time of exposure (unless maybe you're the Drudge Report or CNN!) Let me know when the price comes down to a reasonable level!

Well, the title only lasted for 5 days. After the 2nd of April, the EC rate of this site settled at a more 'normal' level.
